Darcey’s Story

Your Support Matters!

At seven months old, Darcey’s parents knew something wasn’t right. It became clear to the local doctors that she needed more specialized care and she was transported to Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre.

Darcey’s symptoms were caused by atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, a rare genetic blood disorder. To keep her alive and well, Darcey receives infusions at Children’s Hospital every three weeks. She will need this medication for the rest of her life.

Darcey knows when she goes to the hospital her friends are there waiting for her. Her Child Life Specialist, Erika, brings her crafts and helps distract her during difficult aspects of her procedure. And of course, Ollie the Clown stops by to make her laugh and draw her pictures.

Because of the incredible team at Children’s Hospital, Darcey is able to be a normal six-year-old and play with her big brother, Dominique.
